WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION Weight distribution systems are designed to assist with the restoration of the original geometry of the tow vehicle as close as possible to that which it was prior to the coupling of a trailer. When you hitch your trailer to your vehicle, you apply the trailer's total ball weight directly onto the rear section of the vehicle behind the rear axle. Like a seesaw this will transfer the weight from the front and cause the suspension to lift. This results in shift of the tow vehicle and trailer's centre of gravity. When travelling this setup can cause trailer sway, reduced steering and braking responsiveness, less traction and misaligned head lamps. When travelling with a trailer, strong cross winds and wind buffers from large trucks and buses can result in unnerving trailer sway. A sway controller is designed to be used in conjunction with a WDH and prevents trailer sway by retarding the privital movement between the tow hitch and the trailer. The Dual Cam Controller relies on two mechanical cams affixed to the underside of the WDH spring bars and through tension in the snap up chain provides resistance for the trailer to rotate. This system has minimal effect on the ease of the reversing and therefore can be left setup at all times. Back to Towbars |
